The Waitematā Harbour Connections project focused on resolving capacity and resilience issues for Auckland Harbour Bridge, drawing on skillsets from SYSTRA’s ANZ, Asia and Canadian business units to develop and assess the optimal multimodal solution.

SYSTRA’s CYCLOPS solution was deployed on walking and cycling catchment analysis for new light rail stations on Auckland’s North Shore. In addition to traditional isochrone analysis, our solution considered the perceived distances from stations (factoring in additional time navigating gradients, surface qualities, and proximity to heavy/speeding traffic) and was able to assess the quantity of formal cycling infrastructure within a certain distance of the proposed station locations. This information was used in the Multi-Criteria Analysis to differentiate the project’s four shortlisted options.
