The one-north estate envisioned to consist of integrated and inclusive mixed-use districts that promote “car-lite” environment actively cultivating and supporting multi-modal lifestyles centered on walking, cycling and riding public transport modes. Through the development of a comprehensive transport model, studies were carried to assess the long-term development sustainability in relation to traffic and transport capacity and requirements. Studies were also carried out to look into potential demand measures and shift towards a higher public transport usage for one-north.
For almost 20 years, SYSTRA has been involved as Lead Transport Consultant on many areas of the one-north master-plan development. SYSTRA was the Lead Consultant in the study for the feasibility of a People Mover System in the greater one-north region, comprising one-north, NUS, NUHS, Science Parks I & II, and Jalan Hang Jebat areas. The study methodology included a macro-level study of road network capacities using SIDRA and VISUM. Data collection and analysis on parameters such as GFA, parking occupancies, traffic counts, modal split surveys and public transport surveys were incorporated into model scenarios to ascertain the need for a suitably-placed People Mover System.
