Connecting the Batam and Bintan islands, located in Indonesia’s Riau Islands province, South of Singapore, has been taken into account as one of priority projects of several long-term national-level plans of the Indonesian Government, notably Mid-Term National Development plan 2020-2024 and Batam-Bintan Infrastructure Development Policy, owing to the expansion of manufacturing industry in Batam and the increasing number of tourists in Bintan.

This project is expected to result in multiple positive effects not only for the region but for the country’s economic growth by inducing significant domestic and foreign investment in the industrial sector in Batam and by boosting tourism development in Bintan.

Our Scope

The 12.7 km road construction plan between Batam and Bintan islands in Indonesia includes a 7.1 km marine bridge. SYSTRA Korea contributed to the concept design of the main bridge, a cable‑stayed structure crossing the sea.

For the feasibility study, SYSTRA MVA provided traffic demand forecasting services, while SYSTRA Korea participated to help the Indonesian government identify the optimal route, evaluate project costs, and establish a PPP strategy. This was achieved through a business feasibility review based on reliable traffic surveys and demand forecasts, ensuring the project could be implemented as a private investment initiative.

Recognized for its extensive experience and proven professionalism in special bridge projects, SYSTRA Korea was entrusted with two key roles in the feasibility study:

  1. Conducting the concept design study for the main bridge.
  2. Leading the traffic demand forecast study, with support from SYSTRA MVA Singapore.
