Project description

  • Phase 1: A converter station was established to supply the connection points at Langelinie and the cruise terminal. 132 kV high-voltage cables were connected to 30 kV from a temporary Radius substation. Subsea cables were installed to Langelinie Quay.
  • Phase 2: In 2028, a substation will be established so that the 132 kV cables can be connected to a 132 kV Energinet substation.

Cruise ships can already connect to shore power, allowing the ship’s generators and/or engines to be switched off during their stay. According to figures from the City of Copenhagen, this reduces pollution at the quay by 90 per cent. At the time of its inauguration, the facility was the largest shore power installation in Europe.

As consultant to By & Havn, SYSTRA carried out the design work for the shore power facility from the concept phase through to the detailed design phase, as well as technical site supervision of the project’s physical implementation.

On 2 June 2025, the shore power facility was inaugurated by His Majesty King Frederik.
