The East Line is an important transport artery for many commuters in East Zealand. However, it has long been realised that the old tracks are so worn out that they need a thorough renovation. SYSTRA is the total consultant for Lokaltog A/S for the renovation of the East Line. A renovation that will ensure passengers an efficient and stable railway traffic far into the future.
Project description
The political decision-making process has been completed and the final authorisation for the track renovation is now in place. Mobilisation and establishment of workplaces will begin in spring 2023. From mid-June 2023, train operations will stop, and the track renovation will begin. All lines will be renovated by 2024.
The East Zealand local railway the East Line stretches approx. 50 km from Køge to Faxe Ladeplads and with a branch from Hårlev to Rødvig. As general contractor for Lokaltog A/S, SYSTRA is assisting with the design of track improvements, including replacement of rails, sleepers and sleepers and renovation of the drainage system.
Station remodelling
The East Line has 15 stations. Two of these stations will be remodelled in connection with the renovation. Rødvig Station, which is one of the railway’s termini, will be moved one kilometre to the north, which means that the last part of the line through Rødvig and the two-level crossings will be closed. At Faxe Syd Station, a new crossing track and an additional platform will be constructed. The new crossing track will provide greater flexibility in railway operations.
At the other end of the railway line at Køge, the line has been extended to Roskilde. This was done in connection with Lokaltog A/S taking over operations between Køge and Roskilde. Together with the renovation of the railway, this will give passengers a significantly better connection between Roskilde and Faxe Ladeplads and Rødvig, respectively.
