Missions
Copenhagen – The Ringsted line alleviates the massive bottleneck problems that have long existed on the railway line towards Copenhagen.
Location
København – Ringsted
Partners

Activity
Multidisciplinary railway consulting, project and design management, financial management, 3D design of tracks, bridges, roads, and paths

The new double-tracked railway spans 60 km across the landscape between Copenhagen and Ringsted. Along the way, the railway passes the newly established Køge Nord Station, where it is possible to transfer between the new long-distance railway and the suburban train. The Copenhagen-Ringsted Line is electrified and prepared for speeds up to 250 km/h.

Project DESCRIPTION

The Copenhagen – Ringsted Line solves the massive bottleneck problems that have long existed on the line towards Copenhagen. For passengers, this means more trains between Copenhagen and the rest of Denmark, an improved timetable, shorter travel times, and fewer delays.

SYSTRA Denmark has led the consortium consisting of SYSTRA, Vössing, EKJ, and Sweco, which has undertaken the railway technical advisory project.

Many disciplines involved

Together with Vössing, EKJ, and Sweco, SYSTRA has been responsible for optimizing the alignment, designing crossing and temporary roads, as well as bridges, and other structures, including a new 600-meter double-track railway bridge crossing the Highway near Vallensbæk Lake.

The consortium has also provided solution proposals for the new electrification system. All design work has been carried in 3D, including calculations, interface and collisions control.

In several locations, the railway also crossess the Køge Bugt Highway, adjacent ramp structures, and other roads. Additionally, the project included:

  • Design of long-distance and surburban-train platforms
  • Connection to the Lille Syd Line towards Køge and Næstved
  • An additional track between Københavnsvej and Køge Station
  • Connection of the new Line to Ringsted Station
  • Connection of the new Line to Vigerslev Station

Design of bridges and other structures

In addition to the railway technical contract, we have acted as advisors to the joint venture partnership of M J Eriksson A/S, and Züblin A/S on the turnkey contract TP40. In this context, we are responsible for the design of 20 bridges, 9 wildlife passages, 6 retaining walls, 1 piled deck, as well as the associated road and path construction on the line.
