Project Management

SYSTRA, in a joint venture with COWI and Parsons, is working to automate the S-train network, which will transform daily mobility for users in Copenhagen.

More flexibility and increased reliability

To accommodate growing traffic and optimize operating costs, DSB has decided to fully automate its network. This initiative is part of the Future S-train programme (Future Copenhagen Rail Network Programme / FCRN).

The programme covers the transition from the semi-automated, driver-operated GoA2 system to a fully automated, driverless GoA4 system—the highest level of automation. This will deliver greater flexibility, efficiency, and operational control. For passengers, it will mean new trains, enhanced safety, increased reliability, and more regular departures.

An integrated joint venture

The joint venture consist of COWI, SYSTRA, and Parsons, under a framework agreement for project management and consultancy services. Together with our partners, SYSTRA is preparing the tender documents for rolling stock and automation systems, assisting in supplier selection, and supervising implementation while maintaining ongoing network operations.

SYSTRA’s team holds key roles within the Future S-train organisation and will also contribute to establishing a new local public entity responsible for operating and maintaining both infrastructure and rolling stock. This entity will consolidate responsibilities that are currently divided between DSB and Banedanmark.

The joint venture works closely and is embedded in a shared project office with DSB’s project team.

**GoA: Grade of Automation — a four-level classification that defines the degree of automation in a transport system.
