In line with the UAE’s long-distance rail network vision 2030, Etihad Rail is preparing a project of high-speed rail service between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the UAE’s two largest cities and economic centres. The line has more than 50 km of tunnels and 10 km of bridges. It will use the ERTMS Level 2 signalling system and travel at 300 km/h or more.

The Project

The HSR vision is to develop an integrated multi-modal service to create a long-term sustainable transport system designed to reduce dependency on roads and improve decarbonisation, and to integrate transport and land use.

The key elements of the project are :

  • Develop public transport systems hierarchy
  • Establish optimal standard of station design, railway system and vehicle fleet
  • Ensure integration of new mobility technologies (MAAS, E-scooters, etc.)
  • Select transit-oriented development nodes to better integrate land use and public transport
  • Maintain compatibility with individual Emirates Transport Policies & plans
  • A design consultant has been appointed to develop the business case, concept and Preliminary Engineering (PE) as the base case:
  • 160 km between Abu Dhabi and Dubai
  • 6 stations: 4 in inner-city of Abu Dhabi and 2 in inner-city of Dubai
  • 1 main maintenance depot
  • Power Supply: Catenary 25 kV AC

Our Scope

SYSTRA is a project management consultant providing project management services, design review services and procurement support services for civil engineering, railway systems, rolling stock and O&M facilities. The objectif is to provide a fully integrated plan for the development of HSR three sections. The scope shall cover the High-Speed Rail and its integration with other urban transport models within the cities.

SYSTRA Korea is in charge of the following structures main scope :

  • Value Engineering Report & Proposal
  • Tender Design Drawings
  • Tender Design Reports
  • BoQ (Quantities only)
  • Technical Support for Contractor’s Form
  • Response to Clarifications
