WE ACT FOR SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY
As a transport and mobility engineering company, we have a huge role to play in the field of sustainability.
We want to preserve the environment, accompany our clients towards sustainable mobility, and be a committed and responsible employer.
OUR SUSTAINABility VISION
Our job is to create mobility solutions that encourage access to regions and services, and the movement of people and goods. It is the reason we exist. We have the responsibility to offer each individual the opportunity to travel with minimal friction, enabling better lifestyles for all.
The infrastructure we develop must be reliable, sustainable and resilient, in order to support the economic development of cities and regions, but also to encourage the well-being of entire populations by creating affordable and fair access for everyone.
In the context of the climate emergency and global energy transition, we are especially focused on resource management and minimizing our own carbon footprint and those of the projects we touch.
Sustainability is more than a strategic intent; it is a way to place these issues at the very heart of what we do. We use our knowledge of transport systems and our expertise in sustainable development to help our clients reduce their impact on resources and biodiversity, while factoring in the social acceptability of our projects.
Jean-Charles Vollery, Chief Executive Officer, SYSTRA Group
SYSTRA’s three Responsibilties
- Our environmental responsibility to respond via our projects to the challenges posed by the climate emergency and the need to preserve biodiversity;
- Our societal responsibility to guide our clients and populations toward sustainable mobility; and
- Our social responsibility as a committed and responsible employer.
Our role only makes sense in the long term, with the essential perspective of our commitment to serve future generations.
In line with UN sustainability objectives, we do everything in our power to build a more sustainable future for us all.
Sustainability at SYSTRA is no longer just an ambition: it has become a reality. We have reached a milestone with the transformation already underway. This means we can take action as close as possible to our sites and projects to protect the environment, support communities and play a part in the energy transition for mobility… And we have the resources and solutions to have a positive impact on the projects we implement.

SYSTRA Group Sustainability Director

A COMMITTED AND RESPONSIBLE EMPLOYER
The people of SYSTRA sit at the center of our sustainability initiative. No action is possible without everyone contributing to our shared objectives, so understanding our sustainability goals is essential for our colleagues throughout the world.
Ensuring an attractive work environment for our colleagues is also something that we take seriously. Trust between colleagues is crucial, which is one of the reasons we place so much importance on diversity and inclusion within the company, as well as access to training and opportunities for development.
We also mobilize all employees equally to reduce the environmental footprint of our worksites and operations as much as possible.
Finally, we share a positive ethics and safety culture with all our stakeholders.
ZOOM ON
Founded in 2019, the international Women@SYSTRA network aims to promote diversity and equality within the company. This aim, shared by the entire engineering sector, is supported by SYSTRA’s Executive Board and Supervisory Board. By engaging external personalities and hosting workshops on various themes, this network enables us to share best practices and reinforce diversity across the Group.
OUR ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIETAL RESPONSIBILITY
Our environmental and societal responsibility is fully integrated in the solutions we provide for our clients and end users.
Our technical and innovation choices are made with a circular economy approach. We reconcile economic imperatives, the reduction of negative impacts and the evaluation of positive impacts into a long-term vision. We also place ecodesign at the heart of our projects by taking into account the challenges at all stages of projects’ lifecycles, from planning to design, and then throughout the operation and maintenance phases.

HS2 Project
How we reduced by 50% the carbon footprint on a major project in the United Kingdom
As a signatory to the Climate Engineering Charter with Syntec-Ingénierie since October 2019, we stand resolutely with the ambitions set by the Paris Agreement and are committed to adopting a 1.5°C strategy consistent with our environmental policy.
Since 2020, our BIM (Building Information Modelling) approach has integrated indicators on greenhouse gas emissions, which are essential for evaluating impacts of projects and making decisions. This progress has enabled us to fully integrate environmental responsibility into our projects from the initial phases.
OUR CONTRIBUTION TO UN SUSTAINABility OBJECTIVES
Our activities have a major impact on 5 of the 17 objectives defined by the UN:

Along with our colleagues operating in more than 80 countries, we encourage teamwork to effectively contribute to these sustainability objectives. We encourage innovative ideas and support their translation into concrete action.
