BOLD LEADERSHIP Activity Report 2022 11 United States California at high speed SYSTRA is an integral member of the Stantec Team to design a segment of California’s high speed line – a key section between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The first high speed line in the US, SYSTRA has been involved in this project since the very start, preparing a multi-decade implementation plan for the rail line and conducting the preliminary studies for the railway systems and two bridges. This future line has been designed to link San Francisco and Los Angeles effectively and sustainably by rail. Asia Malaysia and Singapore linked thanks to SYSTRA At the end of 2026, a metro-type cross-border link will connect the citystate of Singapore up to the Malaysia peninsular, via the Straits of Johor. The SYSTRA-led consortium was tasked with independently certifying this future section, from designing and commissioning to operating and maintaining all the urban rail systems. Europe Brenner: new milestone for the tunnel We have been involved in its construction since the very first design studies in 2005, and SYSTRA SWS’s teams witnessed a new 24-kilometre section of the Brenner Base Tunnel being successfully broken through in the eastern Alps, at the Austrian-Italian border. This extraordinary underground railway infrastructure will be one of the longest in the world by the time it is brought into service in 2028. It is known for its geometrical complexity and the extremely variable nature of the rock formations deep beneath it. Egypt From one sea to the other at 250 km/h From Al-Ain al-Sokhna on the Red Sea coast to El Alamein on the Mediterranean coast via 534 kilometres and 11 stations: this is the country’s new high-speed line for both passengers and freight. SYSTRA will serve as a consultant and will put together the tender documents, as well as provide assistance during the contracting process. It will then award engineering contracts, as well as operation and maintenance contracts.
