FROM TECHNOLOGY ENGINEER TO PROJECT MANAGER

Mette holds a degree in Export and Technology Engineering from DTU, where she graduated in 2020. She previously worked as a Project Engineer for HOFOR before transitioning to SYSTRA two years ago.

Currently, Mette works as a Project Manager on the New Railway over West Funen project, which involves the construction of a new 35 km double-track and electrified railway from Odense West to Kauslunde. SYSTRA is the main consultant on the project, with NIRAS as a sub-consultant, responsible for the design of the railway and intersecting roads, with the Danish Road Directorate as the client.

At present, Mette’s work on the project is heavily influenced by tender-related tasks, where all materials to be tendered must be meticulously coordinated. Mette is responsible for coordinating with the client to ensure that materials are delivered on time and meet the desired quality, working closely with various professional groups.

OPTIMIZATION OF COMMUNICATION AND QUALITY MANAGEMENT THROUGH PROJECT WEBSITE

In her role as project manager, Mette has contributed to improving the communication flow in the Vestfyn project by, among other things, building a project website. She has also worked intensively on enhancing the project’s quality management process.

Due to the structure of the project, where project participants are not gathered in a single project office but communicate via Teams and email, the creation of a project website has helped to unify the project and ensure more efficient communication. A project like Vestfyn, with close collaboration between two companies, highlights the importance of good communication tools and structured quality management.

Mette is also responsible for continuously monitoring the finances and preparing monthly reports in collaboration with the project directors of SYSTRA and NIRAS. She holds the role of document controller, where she supports the quality management process on the project during submissions and handles both external and internal audits.

INTERDISCIPLINARITY AND FREEDOM WITH RESPONSIBILITY

Mette handles a wide range of tasks and responsibilities that require ongoing communication with various professional groups, and it requires keeping a clear head.

The best part about working for SYSTRA and on the Vestfyn project is the interdisciplinary nature. Every day, I interact with many different types of people with various professional backgrounds, which helps me develop my human leadership skills. No two days are the same, and you always encounter different types of challenges and tasks. SYSTRA offers a lot of freedom with responsibility and flexibility, and there is great trust in my work without micromanagement. We have a good and flat structure, where you work closely with top management in your daily routine, fostering a sense of community where, for example, we enjoy having lunch with both close colleagues and top management.
