Frederiksberg Forsyning regularly conducts construction work that requires traffic closures to varying extents. Naturally, this inconveniences residents and motorists. SYSTRA (formerly Atkins Denmark) has designed and delivered a solution that, using data on actual changes in traffic flow, allows assessing and evaluation of the efforts to minimize the traffic disruptions.
Project description
The main purpose of the solution is to establish a set of reference points to assess the impact on traffic during construction work and to evaluate which measures are most effective in minimizing disruptions.
DATABASED EVALUATION
The decision to close a major road in Frederiksberg, either entirely or partially, can have significant traffic consequences throughout the surrounding area. Therefore, Frederiksberg Forsyning is constantly seeking ways to assess the extent of traffic disruptions and to find new methods to mitigate these disruptions and their associated consequences.
The solution provides the utility company with a fact-based approach to this task, allowing them to study the traffic in the area before, during, and after construction work, and to compare the situation before and after the implementation of various measures to minimize disruptions.
THE BIG PICTURE
SYSTRA has designed and delivered the solution, which also allows for an examination of the broader traffic context by observing the movement of traffic in the area surrounding the construction site. This enables Frederiksberg Forsyning to gain an overview of alternative routes, traffic flow patterns, and the effects of various measures on the larger traffic picture.
The next step will be to use simulation to investigate the impact of construction work and potential measures before they are implemented.
