To alleviate congestion and increase traffic safety on the Øresund motorway, the possibilities for an expansion are being investigated. SYSTRA, with Sweco as sub-consultant, will carry out the consultancy assignment; initially in the form of a feasibility study, which will form the basis for decision-making and can subsequently be expanded with a more detailed project.
Project description
The Øresund motorway stretches almost 10 km from the Amager motorway under the Centrumforbindelsen, past Ørestad, Tårnby and the airport to the Øresund Bridge. The most congested section of the Øresund Motorway is the westernmost part with the branches towards the Amager Motorway and Copenhagen C, where almost 100,000 drivers use the motorway daily.
The study uncovers how the Øresund motorway could be expanded with one extra lane in each direction. This includes, among other things, how five access/exit facilities could be expanded.
The consulting team must deliver a detailed plan for the execution of the motorway expansion. The task includes proposals for traffic improvements and clarification of the consequences of the individual solutions, as well as a preliminary project detailing the technical, safety, environmental and financial consequences.
