Technical details

The M3 Cityringen metro line has become of immense importance for mobility in central Copenhagen. For 11 years, SYSTRA (formerly Atkins Denmark) served as the client advisor on the metro project, which is one of the most advanced in Europe.

Description of the project

In September 2019, Copenhagen residents were able to travel for the first time on the city’s new underground ring line, which includes 17 stations and 39 fully automated, driverless trains, making it significantly easier to quickly move between the city’s central hubs.

In a joint venture with Rambøll, SYSTRA provided all client advisory services related to the transport system. This encompassed all railway engineering disciplines, including track, power supply, train control systems, passenger information systems, video surveillance, SCADA systems, communication systems, and rolling stock. Additionally, the advisory role included a 80,000 m² control and maintenance center with state-of-the-art operating rooms.

As client advisors, we were involved from start to finish – from the preparation of tender documents and evaluation of supplier bids to reviewing the supplier’s design and conducting tests and commissioning.
