SYSTRA is assisting Roskilde Municipality in establishing 600 new parking lots in the new residential area of Sankt Hans in Roskilde. The project also includes advisory services on infrastructure, access, bus stops, and bicycle parking.

project description

The Sankt Hans area in Roskilde is currently undergoing a transformation from a psychiatric hospital to an attractive and sustainable residential area with a focus on green aspects. Here, a number of existing buildings will be transformed into a new mixed urban area with 32,000 m2 of different residential, commercial, cultural and public functions.

The initiatives are part of the Masterplan for Sankt Hans, which was politically adopted in January 2021. With the masterplan, the city council has set the direction and framework for the future Sankt Hans.

SYSTRA’s role in the project

SYSTRA is assisting Roskilde Municipality in revitalizing the old area, including the establishment of 600 parking spaces and advisory services on infrastructure, access for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians, bus stops, and bicycle parking at a new transportation hub. Beyond traffic and road design, SYSTRA is also overseeing a landscape project in future phases, emphasizing landscape architecture and area planting. LYTT Architecture has designed the masterplan for the landscape project, with BOGL contributing as a sub-consultant to SYSTRA during the preliminary design phase.

The overarching governance principle is that the increased traffic resulting from new housing and outward-facing functions should not compromise the park landscape and cultural environments, nor unnecessarily burden the surrounding areas.
