We are incredibly pleased to announce that the Rambøll SYSTRA M5 Joint Venture, together with Gottlieb Paludan Architects as a sub-consultant, will assist Metroselskabet in developing the requirements specification for the entire transport system for the potential new metro line in Copenhagen, M5.

SYSTRA HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN ONE OF THE TWO DRIVERLESS METROS IN THE WORLD

Rambøll SYSTRA M5 joint venture, with Gottlieb Paludan Architects as a sub-consultant, will assist Metroselskabet in further developing the basic design of the transport system itself and the control and maintenance center for M5. The task includes technical consultancy regarding the specification requirements for trains, railway infrastructure, and technical subsystems, and interfaces with the project’s construction part. Additionally, consultancy will be provided regarding the operation and maintenance of the metro.

We are proud that SYSTRA, together with Rambøll and Gottlieb Paludan Architects as sub-consultants, has been selected as advisors for the transport system of the new M5 line for Metroselskabet. SYSTRA has been involved in one of the two driverless metros in the world and in all metro lines in Denmark, so we are pleased to contribute with our expertise to the M5 transport system. Our project team has worked on iconic projects such as the Grand Paris Express, Dubai Metro, and Toulouse Metro, and we look forward to use this experience to ensure yet another efficient, sustainable, and future-proof transport system for Copenhagen

Johan Stranddorf, project director at SYSTRA Denmark

We are very pleased to be part of creating the foundation for a great passenger experience for the users of the upcoming M5 line. This advisory task is also a continuation of our work on the M4 Cityringen, where we participated as a technical advisor and contributed to identifying possible route alignments. Once again, we look forward to continuing our excellent collaboration with Metroselskabet

FACTS ABOUT M5

  • The M5 metro line is a new independent metro line with up to 10 stations, being constructed in phases from either the south or the north.
  • The new M5 metro line aims to provide metro access to both existing urban areas and new districts in the East Harbor. Additionally, the southern solution can help address the capacity challenges of the current metro across the harbor.
  • Metroselskabet has an ambition to reduce the climate impact of new metro lines, including M5, by 50% compared to previous lines. At the same time, there will be a focus on customer experience, the metro’s contribution to the city, including social sustainability, as well as work on safety and working environment both during construction and operation.
  • The project is tendered by Metroselskabet with a budget of 200 million DKK.
  • Approximately 75-100 employees across the entire consortium will be involved in the project in the coming years.
  • The M5 metro line is expected to open in 2035.
