A positive legacy for future generations
Sonu Sharanjit Singh is a group and project leader in the Overhead Contact Systems & Cable Routing department at SYSTRA Denmark, helping to drive the transition from diesel-powered locomotives to electric ones. The electrification of the railway is a crucial part of Denmark’s strategy to achieve CO₂ neutrality by 2050. This effort alone reduces CO₂ emissions from the railway by several hundred thousand tons annually and contributes to a more climate-friendly transport network.
In addition to the climate and environmental benefits, electrification lays the groundwork for a modern railway with higher speeds, more stable operations, and shorter travel times. This not only results in lower operating costs and reduced noise pollution but also enhances the passenger experience.
Sonu’s journey from a skilled electrician to a power engineer has provided him with a deeper understanding of the technical challenges that must be addressed to ensure effective railway electrification.

My background in craftsmanship has provided me with a solid practical understanding of the challenges we face during railway electrification. Combining this practical knowledge with engineering skills enables me to find the right solutions for our clients. Every kilometer of electrified railway is a step towards a greener future—this is one of the things that drives me in my daily work.
