
Eli originally graduated as an agronomist (Cand. Agro) from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University and further specialized with a Ph.D. from the University of Copenhagen, where his research focused on the application of GIS in the environmental field. His work with GIS and the environment is a recurring theme throughout Eli’s extensive career.
Eli began his career at the National Environmental Research Institute of Denmark (1990-1998), where he conducted research and completed his Ph.D. He then transitioned to the telecommunications industry at Mobilix A/S (1998-1999), where he developed GIS applications. He continued his career at HOH Water and Environment (1999-2000).
CENTRAL ROLE IN SYSTRA’S DEVELOPMENT
Eli began his journey at SYSTRA in 2000 when he joined the Advisory Division of the Danish Rail Authority, which later became part of Atkins and now SYSTRA. Eli started as an environmental group leader in the Transport and Environment department and quickly advanced to department head for Environment and GIS.
Since 2006, Eli has been a director at SYSTRA Denmark, responsible for various departments and units, and he now holds the role of Director for the Consultancy business area, overseeing the IT and energy markets.
As a long-standing member of the group of directors at SYSTRA Denmark, Eli has played a central role in the development of new business areas. He has made significant contributions to our development, maintaining our position as a strong rail engineering consultant while also evolving into a multidisciplinary advisory firm. His leadership and customer focus have been crucial in managing several of SYSTRA’s major infrastructure projects.

TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT FOR THE BENEFIT OF SOCIETY
In addition to his role at SYSTRA, Eli has been active in promoting technological advancements and the value of data through his work with DAFAGO (Danish Forum for the Application of Basic Data and Other Public Data) and Geoforum (Professional Forum for Geodata), where he has contributed to raising awareness about data and its potential applications for the benefit of users and society.
Eli has held various positions on the Geoforum board, including Vice Chairman and Treasurer, where he has influenced the direction of the organization. He has also participated in committees under the Danish Association of Consulting Engineers (FRI), including the Infrastructure Committee and the Climate & Environment Committee, reflecting his ongoing interest in environmental and climate issues.
Eli Skop’s dedication to his field and his passion for optimizing processes and promoting a positive work environment with a flat structure have made him a respected and well-liked leader at SYSTRA Denmark and a truly good colleague.
