Banedanmark Establishes Charging Infrastructure for Battery Trains – SYSTRA Advises

The train service between Holstebro and Skjern via Vemb will be greener in the future with battery trains.

A POLITICAL DECISION

Banedanmark will build charging infrastructure for train operations with SYSTRA as advisor. In Infrastructure Plan 2035, DKK 330 million has been earmarked for the purchase of four battery trains and the establishment of charging infrastructure on the state line between Holstebro-Skjern.

With Infrastructure Plan 2035, it has been politically decided to establish battery train operations between Holstebro and Skjern and to establish charging infrastructure so that Midtjyske Jernbaner’s future battery trains can run on the line. With battery train operation, the train’s batteries must be able to be charged at regular intervals to ensure robustness in the operational conditions.

PILOT PROJECT FOR OTHER LINES

The chosen concept for charging battery trains is compatible with existing electrified Danish railways and is similar to concepts from other countries. It is expected that the concept for charging battery trains at terminals can be applied to other regional train lines in the future.
