30 August 2024
On August 31, we mark one year since we said goodbye to Atkins and became part of SYSTRA. During the first year, we have strengthened SYSTRA's position in the Scandinavian market through close collaboration and expanded expertise.
On Wednesday, September 28, all SYSTRA colleagues from the headquarters in Ørestad gathered and participated in the DHL run in Copenhagen

A STRONGER PLAYER IN THE MARKET

Eva Rindom, administrerende direktør

I am pleased that we at SYSTRA have been able to demonstrate that we are a strong player in the market, where with our combined resources and capacities, we have been able to offer our clients an even broader range of expertise and solutions.

Eva Rindom, Managing director of SYSTRA Denmark

The past year has been marked by collaboration and innovation, as well as establishing a unified and strong SYSTRA Denmark with an enhanced position in the Scandinavian market and a sharpened profile in infrastructure. Particularly in the metro sector, we contribute with strong competencies, being involved in all existing metro lines in Denmark and nearly every other driverless metro worldwide.

For Metroselskabet, we have won the task of condition assessment for the entire existing metro in Copenhagen, because of SYSTRA’s strong competencies. This includes evaluating the current condition and the expected maintenance and renewal in the coming years.

Additionally, we have been able to strengthen our ongoing projects such as the Future S-train – a project concerning an automated and more flexible S-train in Copenhagen.

The establishment of SYSTRA Denmark has significantly strengthened our team thanks to broader local support and deep insights into the Danish market. This combination of international and local railway expertise is crucial for our clients and for the success of our unique 20-year S-train program.

Antoine Stephens, project director of Future S-train

Besides the railway sector, we have continued to focus on our other markets such as roads and urban spaces, energy, water, and IT.

CONNECTED TEAMS

The establishment of SYSTRA Denmark has opened doors to new competencies across borders, supported by SYSTRA’s value of “Connected Teams.” This principle connects our experts throughout the company, enabling us to tackle complex challenges in our projects.

For example, our colleague Jyothsna Amrith is seconded as Deputy Project Director on the Qiddiya Light Rail project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, while another colleague, Rune Mikkelsen, will participate in SYSTRA’s NGO program Bridges to Prosperity in November. In this program, a team of ten people from various countries and offices will build a bridge for the local community in Rwanda.

It is of great value both for us as a company and for our clients that we can draw on each other’s strong competencies across offices and national borders. At the same time, many of our colleagues find it an exciting opportunity to work on interdisciplinary projects and visit international projects and offices.

FACTS ABOUT THE INTEGRATION

Atkins Denmark, along with Atkins Sweden and Atkins Norway, was previously owned by the Canadian consulting engineering firm SNC Lavalin.

On August 31, 2023, SYSTRA completed the acquisition of the Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian units of Atkins following the agreement made on July 7, 2023.

SYSTRA already had a small department in Denmark with 15 employees, who have now been integrated into SYSTRA Denmark at the headquarters in Ørestad.
