The Pont du Saguenay bridge project is a feasibility study. The bridge project intends to build a suspension bridge to replace the ferries currently used by vehicles to cross the Saguenay River.
The suspension bridge has a main span of approximately 1350 m (4,429 ft) to allow for pylons. Route 138 and the ferry between the city of Tadoussac and the city of Baie-Sainte-Catherine are the main link between the “Côte-Nord” region and the rest of the province of Quebec. The bridge will carry one lane in each direction plus a multi-use path for bicycles and pedestrians. The clearance above the water at mid-span is approximately
110 m (361 ft), allowing major ships to pass underneath and reach the Port of Saguenay.
SYSTRA IBT will work with the engineering firm CIMA+ on behalf of the Ministère des Transports du Québec and will be a joint venture with CIMA+ and WSP Canada for an opportunity study to construct a suspension bridge over the Saguenay River between Tadoussac and Baie-Sainte-Catherine (Côte-Nord, Capitale-Nationale).
