# WMATA Systemwide Load Flow Study

![WMATA Systemwide Load Flow Study](https://www.systra.com/usa/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2023/03/wmata-tp-study-1-scaled.jpg)

**SYSTRA prepared a service evaluation study of the entire WMATA traction power system that included the Red, Blue, Orange, Yellow, and Green lines. SYSTRA used our proprietary RAILSIM® software to perform a load flow simulation to model the traction power system.**

This study was used to ensure that trains have suitable electrical power to meet
operational requirements and verify that the wayside distribution system is not
overloaded by the electrical demands of revenue operations.

The study determined that modifications to the system were required to support
the operation of eight-car trains, operating with 120-second headways, using
WMATA civil alignment, design criteria requirements, vehicle technical data,
operational data, and wayside distribution data.
