How to make Worcester city centre more appealing and accessible for everyone<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Worcester City Council wanted to develop a 20-year transport strategy for Worcester city centre, with the aim of improving the movement of people and goods around the city, while enhancing sustainability and making the city more attractive to investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The transport strategy would build on the recently developed city centre master plan, covering all modes of transport from private cars and public transport through to cycling and walking. Having supported work on the urban master plan, SYSTRA was commissioned by Worcester City Council, working in partnership with Worcestershire County Council to lead the development of its new transport strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The challenge for SYSTRA was to find ways to create new walking, cycling and wheeling routes to improve the circulation of people around the city centre and reduce the dependency on private vehicles. The council also wanted to enhance the public realm for residents, visitors and workers, by making the most of the city\u2019s historic waterfront location. The ambition was to create a greater sense of place, support the sustainability of the high street and build a more vibrant retail centre, while respecting the area\u2019s cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transport consultants identify core transport infrastructure objectives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To address the challenges facing the city\u2019s transport infrastructure, SYSTRA needed to focus on the core areas for improvement. Our transport consultants identified four strategic objectives for the new transport strategy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
