My role at SYSTRA<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In my role at SYSTRA I oversee the pre-contract commercial function, providing strategic support for bids and business development. This involves formulating comprehensive commercial strategies while carefully balancing risks and opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

I work closely with our technical leads, sales and bid function, and legal department, to ensure our proposals are competitive and drive efficiencies to maximise outputs for our clients.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

My career journey<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Following completion of my business management and economics degree, I secured my first job at National Grid where I did an array of different jobs until I settled into a procurement and commercial role. This worked well with my extraverted personality and provided me with the opportunity to work with multiple stakeholders both internally and externally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

During my career I have had the opportunity to work on both client and delivery side, predominantly within the infrastructure and rail sectors. The valuable skills I\u2019ve learned have enabled me to understand the views on both sides of the fence, which is fundamental to ensuring the client\u2019s requirements are achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When did you realise this was the career path for you?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

There was no definitive moment when I realised a career in commercial was the right path for me. However, upon completing university, I was determined to avoid committing to a graduate scheme in an unfamiliar field. Instead, I chose to explore a variety of roles to identify a career that aligned with both my professional competencies and personal strengths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Early in my career, I recognised my interest in the procurement and pre-contract aspects of commercial, rather than pursuing the traditional quantity surveying route. I was not afraid to move outside the \u2018traditional\u2019 view of commercial or drive my own development by exposing myself to individuals who enhanced my technical know-how.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Have you got any words of wisdom for someone starting out in a similar role?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Avoid over-planning your career path. While I strongly advocate for defining the general direction you wish to pursue, I firmly believe everything happens for a reason. Do not hesitate to take chances; the worst outcome is discovering something is not the right fit for you. Use these experiences as learning opportunities to inform and guide your next steps. Many of the opportunities in my career have emerged through being in the right place at the right time (circumstances that are often unpredictable). Embrace such opportunities when they arise, as they may <\/strong>not occur frequently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does SYSTRA stand out from the rest as a great place to work?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Whilst many companies triumph values, SYSTRA embodies them in everything we do. Our values are embedded at all levels across the business. This includes our \u2018Life Saving Rules\u2019 which puts safety at the very forefront – an area which, in the sector and industry we operate within, is paramount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With such power in diversity, what unique perspective do you bring to the table?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

I bring a unique perspective shaped by my commitment to championing LGBTQIA+ rights and challenging barriers that exist across various demographics. My support has taught me the importance of creating inclusive environments where everyone feels valued, listened to and empowered to succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where is the place that has inspired you the most?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The place that has inspired me the most is New York City. Its energy, diversity and relentless drive for innovation is inspiring. Walking through its streets, you’re surrounded by a mix of cultures, ideas and ambitions that create an environment where anything feels possible. I love it so much that I go back every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does true sustainability really mean to you?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

For me, sustainability is not merely a new initiative but a deeply ingrained culture that influences every aspect of what we do. We need to consider the impacts we have to ensure our actions in the present do not impede those in the future. Whilst the magnitude of sustainability is vast, I believe deeply that we all have our part to play, both on a personal and corporate level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What would a green future<\/em> look like?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A green future, to me, is one where individuals, communities and organisations come together to take collective <\/strong>responsibility for the health of our planet. It\u2019s a future where sustainability is not just an individual effort but a shared commitment, with everyone playing their part, big or small, to create lasting change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you look after your wellbeing outside of work?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

I consider myself a very sociable person and regularly meet up with friends and family to keep my social batteries charged, however, my true passion is my dog Megatron (yes, I really did call my dog Megatron). Going out after work on a nice walk is really good for my mental and physical wellbeing, it forces me to naturally switch off from the working day and helps me work through my daily thoughts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you had to pick, which mode of transport would you use for the rest of your life?<\/h6>\n\n\n\n

As somebody who has had an EV car for the past five years, this has got to be my answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
