#### Quiet Mark Built Environment Award – John Connell Awards 2025

**Winning project:**

**Team:** SYSTRA, Gatwick Airport, Network Rail, Costain, Mima Group

Judges praised the team’s collaborative approach when redesigning the station,
recognising the challenges faced when designing for reduced noise and sound
management in such a busy location.

#### Better Integration through Technology Award – Intelligent Transport Systems UK Annual Awards 2025

**Winning project:** FUSION (Fusion of User Surveys and Integrated Online
Navigation)

**Team:** SYSTRA, the Department for Transport, Yonder Data Solutions, TravelAi

The judges felt FUSION had major potential in supporting better decision making
for those looking to build integrated networks – a great example of the role of
data in supporting seamless transport

#### Biodiversity Award – Network Rail SHELT (Safety, Health, Environment, Leadership, Team) Awards 2025

**Winning project: **East Coast Main Line power supply upgrade

**Team:**REAL (Rail Electrification Alliance) – SYSTRA, Siemens, Volker Rail,
Murphy’s, Jacobs Engineering, Network Rail

The habitat creation project was the first of its kind for SYSTRA under Network
Rail, with our teams working hard to ensure planning requirements were fulfilled
and the project positively contributed to the surrounding area.

The use of SYSTRA Vision identifying potential hazards in a controlled 3D
environments was recognised by judges for proactively managing health and safety
risks.

**Winning project:**

**Team:** SYSTRA & Sheffield City Council

Engaging with ‘seldom heard’ groups across the city, SYSTRA colleagues created a
robust body of evidence to support inclusion in future active travel projects.

#### Process Award – Institution of Structural Engineers’ Midlands Counties Structural Awards 2024

**Winning project: **HS2 MWCC, M42/M6 Link East and West Viaducts

**Team:**SYSTRA & Mott MacDonald Design Joint Venture on behalf of Balfour
Beatty VINCI

Utilising a UK-first push and pull technique to launch the viaducts, the design
team were praised for how they minimised traffic disruption to two of
Birmingham’s busiest motorways during installation.

#### Profession Award – Institution of Structural Engineers’ Midlands Counties Structural Awards 2024

**Winning project:** HS2 MWCC, A452 Kenilworth Road Overbridge

**Team:** SYSTRA & Mott MacDonald Design Joint Venture on behalf of Balfour
Beatty VINCI

A collaborative effort with a team spanning 8 countries, the delivery of the
longest and highest box structure on the entire HS2 project left a strong impact
on judges.

– ‘4D construction planning and visualisation initiative’

**Team:** TRU East Alliance, SYSTRA

The proactive approach to safety in railway infrastructure impressed judges,
with the initiative’s 4D planning to digitally simulate construction activities
before they begin creating opportunities to foresee safety concerns and prepare
for on site challenges.

#### Winning Infrastructure Project – Tekla BIM Awards 2024

**Winning project:**
[Gatwick Station Upgrade](https://www.systra.com/uk/project/gatwick-airport-station-transformation/)

**Team:** Kilnbridge Construction Services working with Costain, SYSTRA, Emico &
others

Tekla praised the project for navigating a complex development and delivery with
the teams using Tekla’s software across all aspects of the project, including
regular reviews of design and model updates.

**Winning project: **HS2 Old Oak Common Station – Skills, Employment and
Education (SEE) Strategy

**Team:** Balfour Beatty, VINCI, SYSTRA Joint Venture (BBVS)

The Considerate Constructors Scheme noted the wide-reaching and impressive
solutions used by the team at Old Oak Common to create long lasting social value
in the local community. In particular, the 4 scalable digital solutions ranging
from community stakeholder engagement to running STEM skills platforms for the
next generation impressed judges.

#### Innovation Project of the Year – Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation North East & Cumbria Annual Awards 2023

**Winning project:**
[Social Value of the Tyne & Wear Metro](https://www.systra.com/uk/project/social-value-of-the-tyne-wear-metro/)

**Team:** SYSTRA, Nexus

SYSTRA was recognised for using the new Rail Social Value Tool (RSVT) developed
by the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) to assess the social, economic and
environmental benefits of the Metro and how it’s positively impacted the local
area.

Working alongside the London Borough of Lambeth, SYSTRA specialists impressed
judges by increasing the kerbside’s climate resilience, accessibility and social
value.
