### Designing sustainable structures for lifetime performance

All buildings or structures – whether they serve transport or energy
infrastructure, provide workspaces or homes – must be designed around the needs
of people, the environment, and their purpose.

Designing buildings that integrate with wider infrastructure projects or urban
developments requires the early involvement of experienced architects – to
ensure that all of the functional, aesthetic and performance requirements of the
building are addressed from the earliest stages. Developers, infrastructure
operators and local authorities often underestimate the scale of activities
involved in developing sustainable, deliverable and economically viable building
designs. Successful architecture projects require an understanding of the human,
environmental and operational demands of the building – if they are to gain the
support of wider stakeholders and achieve planning consents.

The chartered architects at SYSTRA have extensive experience of designing
buildings and structures for complex, multi-disciplinary transport and energy

**As a Chartered RIBA Architecture Practice, SYSTRA designs rail stations, transport buildings and structures, energy infrastructure facilities and a whole range of other buildings for clients in many sectors.**

### Architectural design to delight every client

Our architects are experienced in interpreting briefs and engaging with clients
to understand their real requirements, the role of the building and how it will
be used. We pride ourselves on delivering beyond the limitations of the brief –
creating buildings that perform to the highest functional and sustainable
standards and enhance the experience for anyone using them.

We challenge requirements and value engineer buildings, by applying the

, to deliver the most efficient and effective solutions for our clients. We
design buildings to overcome constraints and optimise the available space.

### People-centred transport architecture

In the transport sector, we understand the role of transport hubs, rail stations
and other interchanges – so we design buildings that work intuitively for humans
and facilitate efficient and enjoyable journeys. We focus on the experience of
the building user and the practical needs of each transport mode, creating
people-centred designs that improve the travel experience and enhance the local
environment.

### Engineering design in harmony with the environment

In the energy sector, we have experience of designing sustainable structures to
house energy generation infrastructure – such as energy-from-waste facilities.
Our designs have included the largest timber structure of its kind in Europe and
one of the largest ‘living’ biomass walls, alongside landscaping and habitat
creation features to enhance biodiversity.

### Data-driven design to optimise performance

SYSTRA architects make use of the vast amount of data available to support
elegant and efficient building design. We use data on everything from people
movement and dwell times to noise levels and safety factors to inform our
decisions and designs.
