# Gareth Dennis wins Young Rail Professional Distinguished Service Award 2024

Gareth Dennis, Principal Engineer (Track) at SYSTRA, has won the first ever
[Young Rail Professional (YRP)](https://www.youngrailpro.com/) Distinguished
Service Award.

Gareth, who joined SYSTRA at the end of 2023, was recognised for his resolute
commitment to the rail industry and specifically for the profound, positive, and
lasting impact he has had on young rail professionals. His passion and
enthusiasm for all things rail are well-known across the sector through his
weekly [#Railnatter podcast](https://www.youtube.com/c/GarethDennisTV) and as a
regular national press rail commentator, but not only that Gareth is a skilled
track engineer with over 10 years’ experience.

He picked up the accolade at the YRP’s 14^(th) prestigious annual dinner and
awards ceremony at London’s Troxy Theatre, where he also acted as host.

> Gareth Dennis, Principal Engineer (Track) at SYSTRA Ltd

“I’ve been in the railway industry for a decade, and things have got
increasingly busy for me as I’ve done my best to paint a more vibrant vision
about how the railways fit into the future – while also providing technical
leadership in the delivery of rail projects in the day job.”

“Having recently joined SYSTRA as part of their excellent track engineering team
I’m sure this is just the start of another, bigger chapter!”

Michelle Flint, Discipline Lead (Systems) at SYSTRA, said: “All of us in the
team are extremely proud of Gareth. His warm personality and depth of knowledge
together with his ambition for the rail sector have allowed him to make a real
impact since joining SYSTRA a few months ago.

“The YRP Distinguished Service award is well deserved and acknowledges his
remarkable journey so far and his above and beyond contribution to the rail
industry. We are privileged to have Gareth in our Signature Team at SYSTRA and
will enjoy supporting his growth and watching him blossom further still.”
