Following the public consultation for the City in a Garden (CIAG) vision, ECP was earmarked as one of three Destination Parks – large regional parks developed thematically to attract Singaporeans from all over the island. ECP is a scenic coastline that stretches over 15 km with a total land size of 185-hectares.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visitorship of the park currently stands at 7 million visits. Due to its unique positioning and the projected increase in visitors by 0.8% annually to 8.2 million annual trips by 2030, it was determined that early involvement of traffic and transportation planning was vital to the success of the ECP Master Plan.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Apart from architectural and landscaping improvements, there is a leaning towards car-lite initiatives to attract visitors to the park. This requires a review of the traffic impact due to the improvements at the 3 nodes (namely Big Splash, Goldkist and Raintree Cove), parking provision, and the impact of the future Eastern Regional Line MRT stations, of which a few will inevitably serve the park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working with architects from RSP, SYSTRA was tasked to oversee wayfinding design to encourage better communication to visitors who visit by active mobility means between the park and across the ECP expressway. The design encompassed a behavioral and social aspects, as well as gleaning from global best practices such as Legible London. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
