In support of the Singapore Sustainable Blueprint to develop a green living environment, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had announced Ang Mo Kio (\u201cAMK\u201d) to be piloted as a model walking and cycling town. Residents were encouraged to adopt an eco-lifestyle and to opt for sustainable forms of commuting.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

AMK was the first model walking and cycling town in Singapore, where new concepts and ideas were tested to make the town more walkable and cyclist-friendly. Moreover, it supported a more active lifestyle and change the way people move around in their neighbourhood. The model town aimed to encourage walking and cycling as alternative mode of green mobility.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

SYSTRA, as sub-consultant, conducted relevant traffic studies and assessments to justify and refine the walkability enhancement proposals made under Contract PL179 which helped to improve pedestrian and cyclist connectivity within the town and make the surrounding environment within AMK more accessible to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n
