# Structural Engineer, Design (Rail/Metro)

## Context

We are seeking a highly experienced _Structural Engineer (Design)_ to provide
technical oversight across multiple _railway and metro projects_ in the Kingdom
of Saudi Arabia.

 

The role is suited to a design-focused structural engineer with strong
experience in the planning, review, and coordination of structural design for
major transportation infrastructure. The successful candidate will support the
Client in overseeing consultants and project stakeholders, ensuring that
structural designs are technically robust, compliant, coordinated, and aligned
with project objectives, standards, and delivery requirements.

## Missions/Main Duties

The Structural Engineer  will act as part of the Client’s engineering team and
serve as a key technical representative for structural matters across a
portfolio of rail and metro projects. The role will involve reviewing structural
design submissions, monitoring design development, supporting technical
decision-making, and ensuring consistency in engineering quality across
projects.

 

The candidate will oversee the work of design consultants and interface with
other engineering disciplines to ensure effective integration of structural
works with civil, architectural, geotechnical, MEP, systems, and construction
requirements. The role requires close coordination with internal client
stakeholders, external consultants, contractors, and relevant authorities.

 

The Structural Engineer will support the Client in assessing structural design
approaches, identifying risks, resolving technical issues, and ensuring
compliance with applicable standards, project criteria, and authority
requirements. The position also involves participation in design reviews,
workshops, technical meetings, value engineering exercises, and design assurance
activities.

## Key Duties

- Provide structural engineering design oversight within the Client’s office
  across multiple railway projects in the Kingdom.
- Review structural design deliverables prepared by consultants for
  completeness, accuracy, coordination, and compliance.
- Monitor design development for structural assets such as stations, viaducts,
  bridges, depots, retaining walls, and associated infrastructure.
- Ensure that structural designs comply with project requirements, international
  codes, local regulations, and authority standards.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure integrated and
  optimized design solutions.
- Support design assurance, technical governance, and engineering review
  processes on behalf of the Client.
- Identify design risks, technical gaps, and interface issues, and support
  timely resolution.
- Participate in design review meetings, workshops, technical discussions, and
  progress reviews.
- Provide technical input on constructability, value engineering, and design
  optimization.
- Review responses to technical queries, design changes, and engineering
  proposals submitted by consultants or contractors.
- Support the Client in evaluating structural design alternatives and making
  informed technical decisions.
- Prepare technical comments, review reports, engineering memoranda, and
  presentation materials as required.
- Assist in maintaining consistency of structural engineering standards and
  expectations across multiple projects.

## Profile/Skills

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from a
  recognized university.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in structural engineering design and
  design review.
- Strong design consultancy background in structural engineering.
- Extensive experience in railway and/or metro projects is mandatory.
- Experience working on major transportation infrastructure projects with
  multiple stakeholders and interfaces.
- Gulf and/or Saudi Arabia experience is required.
- Strong understanding of structural design standards, engineering coordination,
  and technical review processes.
- Experience reviewing consultant submissions and working within a client, PMC,
  or similar project oversight environment is an advantage.
- Ability to assess technical proposals, identify risks, and support resolution
  of complex structural issues.
- Strong communication, reporting, and coordination skills.
- Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is an advantage.
- Professional registration, chartership, or equivalent accreditation is
  preferred.
- Experience supporting client organizations or major government transport
  entities is an advantage.
- Familiarity with authority approvals and infrastructure delivery processes in
  Saudi Arabia is preferred.
