{"id":32643,"date":"2025-08-28T17:19:50","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T16:19:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.systra.com\/ireland\/?p=32643"},"modified":"2025-08-28T17:19:50","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T16:19:50","slug":"huge-mott-macdonald-systra-design-joint-venture-djv-designed-bridge-structure-positioned-in-birmingham","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.systra.com\/ireland\/news\/huge-mott-macdonald-systra-design-joint-venture-djv-designed-bridge-structure-positioned-in-birmingham\/","title":{"rendered":"Huge Mott MacDonald SYSTRA Design Joint Venture (DJV) designed bridge structure positioned in Birmingham"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mediacentre.hs2.org.uk\/news\/huge-hs2-bridge-move-completed-in-birmingham-two-days-ahead-of-schedule\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The 112m long structure<\/a> was positioned on concrete pillars over a section of Lawley Middleway \u2013 part of the city\u2019s ring road \u2013 over four nights in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:43px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.systra.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2025\/08\/image-1-huge-mott-macdonald-systra-design-joint-venture-djv-designed-bridge-structure-positioned-in-birmingham.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-47104\" style=\"width:700px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:43px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The huge span was constructed on land next to Digbeth Canal over the past two years and a specialist skidding system was used to finally move the bridge into place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The close collaboration between the DJV was particularly important on this project given the overall complexity of the structure. The team was able to ensure their work supported safe and efficient construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Abukalam Mulla, SYSTRA\u2019s CAD Production Manager on the project, said: \u201cThis is a proud milestone for the team. High-speed trains will travel out of the west portal of the 3.5 mile Bromford Tunnel at Washwood Heath and onto a one mile stretch of five connected viaducts\u202fwhich links onto the platforms of Birmingham Curzon Street Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Tom Lake, Design Project Manager at the Mott MacDonald SYSTRA Design Joint Venture DJV, said: \u201cThe Lawley Middleway Viaduct is a landmark moment for Birmingham\u2019s transformation, which showcases the best of modern engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:43px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.systra.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2025\/08\/image-2-huge-mott-macdonald-systra-design-joint-venture-djv-designed-bridge-structure-positioned-in-birmingham.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-47105\" style=\"width:700px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:43px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe entire DJV team are delighted with the successful launch which demonstrates the seamless integration of design innovation and construction expertise.
