#### How Paramics Discovery Works

Paramics Discovery reproduces real-world traffic conditions in a computer model
by simulating the detailed behaviour of individual vehicles on a user-defined
road network.

The software models all road users – including cars, HGVs, buses, cyclists, and
pedestrians – as independent entities. Using advanced algorithms, the software
replicates human behaviour and interactions. This captures the subtle triggers
of congestion, allowing transport planners to accurately forecast the ripple
effects of network changes within a high-fidelity 3D environment.

Whatever you want to test, Paramics Discovery lets you assess the impacts
quickly and simply. Paramics offers an easy to use interface, not only for
building networks or standard operations, but also for all aspects of
microsimulation, particularly data analysis.

#### 󠀁**Paramics Discovery 29**󠁿 – Faster build, smarter behaviour, better usability.

Paramics Discovery 29 is now available to download from the Paramics Support
Centre for all licence holders. This release brings a new set of enhancements
focused on faster network creation, improved vehicle behaviour, and practical
usability refinements that support more efficient modelling workflows.

#### New features in the latest release:

- **OpenStreetMap Import Capabilities** – accelerate model build times. Key
  network elements including links, nodes, lane counts, speed limits and cycle
  paths can now be imported directly, reducing setup time and making it easier
  to develop models from real-world data.

- **Refined Vehicle Performance** – Users can now set hazard reaction distances
  for individual hazards using drag-and-drop signposts, giving greater control
  over network behaviour. The release also includes improved ramp-style merge
  behaviour and a new reaction factor, helping produce more realistic simulation
  outcomes.

- **User-Focused Refinements** – Search has been added to the styles dialog and
  other areas of the software, making it quicker to navigate and manage model
  settings.

- **Enhanced Conjoined Queue Collection** has been enhanced to show route queue
  style queues across the whole network every second, improving visibility and
  analysis of queue conditions.

- **Simplified Licensing** – a new _Licence Update Tool_, designed to make the
  licence update process quicker and easier for users.

Together, these updates make _Paramics Discovery 29_ a more streamlined,
responsive and capable platform for transport modelling professionals.

#### How does microsimulation differ from traditional traffic modelling?

Unlike strategic models that predict broad trends, microsimulation reproduces
real-world conditions by simulating the detailed behaviour of individual
vehicles on a user-defined network. By applying microscopic algorithms it
captures the high-frequency interactions that cause congestion, providing more
accurate results for complex urban environments.

#### How much does Paramics Discovery cost?

Paramics Discovery licences are priced according to the area of the model
network in square kilometres. Licences start from 1km2 and go all the way to
unlimited size and are priced accordingly. Please

#### Can Paramics model active travel modes?

Since Version 26, the software has featured dedicated cycling capability.
Planners can now simulate cyclists and visualise pedestrians alongside motorised
traffic to test the viability of cycle lanes, LTNs, and early-start signals.
These models provide the essential data needed to quantify carbon reductions for
government funding bids.

#### What are the main applications and benefits of using Paramics Discovery?

Paramics Discovery can test various transport planning scenarios including
assessing traffic impacts on road networks, new junction designs, infrastructure
changes, traffic signal control modifications, public transport operations,
roadworks, and event planning. It offers fast network construction, dynamic
assignment features that reflect real-life choice behaviour, automatic analysis
of multiple simulation runs, and compatibility with established assessment tools
for economic and environmental impact analysis.
