# KAVACH – India’s Indigenous Automatic Train Protection System

**SYSTRA India has been appointed to provide Project Management Services (PMS) for the implementation of KAVACH (India’s Indigenous Automatic Train Protection System – formerly Train Collision Avoidance System / TCAS) on the strategically important Bina-Itarsi section of West Central Railway.**

**KAVACH (meaning “armour” or “shield” in Hindi) **is Indian Railways’
revolutionary, **made-in-India Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system.** It
prevents collisions, signal passing at danger (SPAD), over-speeding, and
derailments through continuous real-time monitoring and automatic intervention.
SYSTRA’s expertise ensures seamless, high-quality, and on-schedule deployment of
this game-changing safety technology.

Our multidisciplinary team delivers comprehensive Project Management Services
across the full lifecycle of KAVACH deployment, including:

- End-to-end project management and supervision for KAVACH system implementation
- Modification, alteration, and integration of KAVACH with existing signalling
  and telecommunication systems
- Site supervision, quality control, testing, and commissioning
- Coordination with contractors, stakeholders, and railway authorities for
  smooth execution
- Compliance assurance with RDSO specifications, Safety Integrity Level-4
  (SIL-4) standards, and regulatory requirements

## Key features of the project

West Central Railway (Bhopal Division) is rolling out **KAVACH** on
high-density, critical routes to achieve Indian Railways’ vision of “Zero
Accidents”.

The Bina-Itarsi section is a vital trunk route carrying heavy freight and
passenger traffic. Implementation of KAVACH here involves targeted modifications
and alterations to the existing signalling infrastructure, delivering:

- Real-time train monitoring and automatic braking
- Prevention of collisions, derailments, and SPAD incidents
- Improved headway, operational efficiency, and sectional speed control
- Future-ready digital signalling backbone aligned with national safety goals

This project marks a significant milestone in the nationwide rollout of KAVACH,
reinforcing India’s commitment to indigenous, world-class rail safety
technology.
