# Transpennine Route Upgrade East (TRUe) – United Kingdom

**Transpennine Route Upgrade East (TRUe) is one of six rail projects of the ‘Project Speed’ programme run by network Rail, the company that owns and develops Britain’s railway infrastructure. Financed by the British government, it aims to achieve carbon neutrality, i.e. a balance between the quantities of CO2 emitted and those absorbed into the atmosphere.**

SYSTRA has been involved in the TRUe project, between York and Leeds, for over a
decade as a Design Partner for Network Rail, a role renewed at the end of 2020
with the award of two huge design contracts. Our involvement is enabling
improvements in operation and reliability of connections between the main cities
in the north of England so as to make them more economically attractive.

### MULTIPLE EXPERTISES

In addition to its innovative dimension, the TRUe project demonstrates our
ability to produce and coordinate projects at an international level, with
multidisciplinary operational teams. TRUe brings together a wide variety of
professions:

- Design engineering
- BIM projection
- Project management
- Financial control
- Innovation and software development, with the use since 2022 of the
  [SafebyBIM](https://www.systra.com/digital/fr/solutions/ingenierie-construction/safebybim/)
  tool developed by SYSTRA.

The use of SAFEbyBIM has enabled health and safety risks on the project to be
highlighted via models and drawings resulting in the identification of over
2,000 risks so far, 80% of which have already been resolved.

### HEADING TOWARDS CARBON NEUTRALITY

The electrification of all British rail lines is a priority to achieve long-term
environmental benefits.
