Santiago Metro – Chile

For more than half a century, SYSTRA has accompanied Santiago in the creation if its metro. This fruitful collaboration has enabled SYSTRA to sign more than 80% of the network’s length in the Chilean capital.

With more than 7 million inhabitants, Santiago cannot do without a metro. The first feasibility study led by SYSTRA dates back to 1967 and laid the foundations of the nework, currently by more than 2.5 million passengers per day. Seven lines and more than 130 stations are in service across all the city’s districts.

Each line presents cutting-edge innovations initiated and designed by SYSTRA:

• Trains running on pneumatic tyres on lines 1, 2 and 5, to the benefit of passenger comfort and operating speed;
• U-shaped viaduct, little elevated infrastructure in concrete and patented by SYSTRA as a world first on line 5;
• Reduction of noise and vibrations on lines 4 and 5, for those living close to the
  network;
• UTO automatic train control systems (100% automatic) for lines 3 and 6 starting with the inauguration, and migration of line 1 done without interrupting operation in 2016.

SYSTRA is still present alongside Metro S.A, Santiago’s metro authority, which recently entrusted us with two major assignments:

• Systems design for the line 2 extension
• The The studies for the systems design, workshops and rolling stock of the future line 7, expected in 2026.
