**SYSTRA studied the feasibility of creating an efficient and rapid transport system to improve access from the city centre to the San Rafael Ecological Park on the outskirts of Bogotá.**

SYSTRA’s Consultancy and Planning teams were asked by the public funding agency
Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional (FDN) to look into the best way of linking the
Usaquén district in Bogotá city centre to the future San Rafael Ecological Park.

This 1,200-hectare activity and leisure centre will feature several sports
facilities (cyclocross, climbing, skateboarding, etc.) and restaurants around an
artificial lake. Just 6km from Bogotá as the crow flies, the San Rafael area is
separated by terrain and requires a 30-minute drive to reach.

## A multi-criteria study to offer optimum mobility

SYSTRA’s 2019 study took into account a wide range of criteria:

- Analysis of passenger numbers, to determine the most appropriate size and
  technology for this link;
- Demand modelling, to plan the necessary adaptations to the public space, and
  traffic management around the future stations to optimise passenger numbers;
- A presentation of all the possible aerial mobility solutions (cable car and
  ropeways);
- A study of the route from the Usaquén district to Bogotá city centre;
- A cost-benefit analysis of the project.

The study was submitted to the Colombian authorities in 2019. The Ecological
Park remains a project at present.
