# High speed line ALTO – Canada

**The Cadence team, made up of SYSTRA, CDPQ Infra, AtkinsRéalis, Keolis, SNCF Voyageurs and Air Canada, was selected at the beginning of 2025 by the Canadian government, after a procurement process lasting several years, to carry out the High Frequency Rail project, renamed Alto, between the cities of Quebec and Toronto during the 2030s.**

Cadence was chosen as the federal government’s exclusive co-development partner
to develop the project’s construction (technical, economic, social),  over a
5-year period. Once this phase is complete, it will be followed by construction
(in geographical sections) and operation and maintenance.

## Journey times cut in half

Canada’s future high-speed network will stretch for almost 1,000km along the
Toronto-Quebec corridor and serve, among others, Montreal, Trois-Rivières and
Ottawa. Trains will travel at speeds of up to 300km/h, halving journey times and
providing faster  connections.

This project will directly benefit Eastern Canada, a region with a population of
18 million, including more than 700,000 students, which accounts for 40% of the
country’s GDP and is a major tourist destination.

## The largest sustainable mobility project in Canadian history

More than 51,000 jobs will be created during the construction phase. This
project also meets Canada’s climate objectives, enabling a modal shift from
planes and cars to high-speed rail, and will be carried out in full consultation
with indigenous peoples.

With this new network, Canada will be able to count on a sustainable
infrastructure to support the prosperity of its economy. Reliable, fast and
frequent, the trains of the Alto network will link the main cities and
demographic areas of Eastern Canada and increase opportunities for people to
come and work, study or live in this area, while travelling faster. In this way,
Canada will be able to experience the same high-speed momentum as Japan, France
and China, which have already built similar high-speed corridors.
