# Bari BRT network – Italy

**In 2024, SYSTRA was chosen by the local authorities in the city of Bari, southern Italy to carry out the detailed design for a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network.**

During the tender phase of the project, SYSTRA’s teams in Italy made a wide
range of successful proposals for the future BRT lines including new, improved
designs for the bus stops and shelters, depot and parking areas, system
installations, the terminal layouts, and the BRT roadway. Studies were also
conducted aimed at minimising interference during works by reconstructing
typical construction sites using BIM and 3D models.

### A sustainable mode of transport

The new BRT network will improve public transport services and the quality of
life of local residents, while having a low environmental impact. This
sustainable mode of transport is in line with one of the main objectives of the
Municipality of Bari, which aims to use only zero-emission transport by 2026,
without reducing the efficiency of public transport.

### In line with other green initiatives

The BRT network will comprise a total of 4 lines, approximately 30 km in length,
with 89 stops, 3 terminals and 1 depot. Over 50 pedestrian crossings and 150
signalised intersections are to be designed along the entire length of the
network.

In addition, the arrival of the BRT will coincide with the creation of new green
spaces and the planting of around 200 trees in the city.
