SYSTRA was awarded a contract for the design and construction supervision of 3 tunnels under the Suez Canal
With this design and construction supervision contract for three road and one railway tunnel under the Suez Canal, SYSTRA is helping the Egyptian Authorities to meet their development objectives for the Sinai Peninsula.
Egypt has a rapidly expanding economy, which consequently requires the construction of the necessary transport infrastructures. The Egyptian Authorities therefore decided to build a permanent and durable link between Port Said city in the west and the new Axial Port and future industrial areas, east of the Suez Canal.
The project also aimed to create a new fixed link between the densely populated areas of Egypt in Nile Delta and the Sinai Peninsula. It involves the construction of two road tunnels (2.1km one-way tunnels with an 800m cut and cover section) as well as a railway tunnel (3km two-way (double track) tunnel with a 2km cut and cover section).
“We are bringing the best of SYSTRA in terms of tunnelling to a huge transport infrastructure that will accelerate the development of Sinai Peninsula, says Mahmoud Dow, SVP Middle East Region at SYSTRA. We are proud to serve the Egyptian authorities’ vision”.
