Paris’ latest T8 tram hits the rails
On Tuesday 16th December, Paris’ latest T8 tram was launched at the maintenance centre in Villetaneuse, following three years of building work. Pierre Mongin, Chief executive of the Paris transit operator (RATP) and Jean-Paul Huchon, President of local government for the Paris region & Chairman of the Paris transit authority (STIF) attended the ceremony.
Frédéric Dupouy, Director of urban transport for the Paris region, Cyrille Bocher, project manager, and Philippe Bernard, Director of the department for surface train projects, represented SYSTRA.
Since tuesday afternoon, the characteristic Y-shaped T8 line has been serving St Denis, Epinay and Villetaneuse, on the northwestern outskirts of Paris.
Signed in 2005 and delivered in 2014, this project was complicated by town planning issues. SYSTRA managed the transport systems engineering side, from preliminary design through to operations prior to acceptance, in compliance with the French “Mop” law which regulates public works. We were also involved in the project management consortium which dealt with summarising, as well as scheduling, supervising & coordinating the layout of public areas.
