Dodam Bridge, SYSTRA Korea’s first signature project
In South Korea, SYSTRA Korea and Hyundai Engineering & Construction (HDEC) are designing and building the Dodam Railway Bridge. The project contract, awarded in 2012, is the first obtained by the South Korean branch on its domestic market.
A structure to improve quality of service
The Dodam Bridge is situated on the Dodam-Yeongcheon railway line. The teams from SYSTRA Korea carried out the preliminary design and detailed design phases for the project, which included dynamic analyses and the study of the interaction between the railway track and the bridge structure. Construction began in 2014 and is expected to be completed in June 2017.
The bridge, spanning 480 metres over the Nan Han River, will have a maximum distance of 120 metres between pillars. In addition to the construction of the new bridge, the line’s modernisation project includes electrification, the replacement of the single track by a double track line and an increase of the maximum speed capacity to 250 km/h. Through these upgrades, the client, Korea Rail Network Authority, seeks to improve quality of service on the line.
A long-standing partnership with Hyundai
Formed in August 2012, the SYSTRA Korea subsidiary contributes to SYSTRA’s international expansion in a market where the Group previously participated in the design of the Honam High Speed Railway.
Partners since 1996, SYSTRA and South Korean conglomerate Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. are also collaborating on the design and construction of the Chacao Bridge in Chile and the Subiyah Causeway in Kuwait.
