An elevated metro on SYSTRA’s U-shaped viaduct in Jakarta
SYSTRA, thanks to the technical solution provided by the U-shaped viaduct, has just won a new contract for the elevated metro line in Greater Jakarta.
Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, is the second most populous city in the world, close behind Tokyo. The Greater Jakarta, called Jobodetabek, topped 28 million inhabitants. And to transport them, SYSTRA will produce the alignment and detailed studies of the future elevated metro network of the Indonesian metropolis for the client, Indonesian construction company Adhi Karya. With 6 lines totaling 83 km in a densely built-up area, to be commissioned in 2018, this contract is a major challenge for SYSTRA.
The U-shaped viaduct has the advantage to reduce time and cost of construction. This contract signs a success return to Indonesia for SYSTRA.
In recent years, the government of Jakarta has launched a huge programme to improve its urban transport, with the creation of Bus Rapid Transit networks and the ongoing construction of an underground metro system. Now, it is going further to deal with the growing demand for mobility and lack of public transport.
