### In the UK, innovation wins awards

SYSTRA’s UK & Ireland teams won the ‘Innovation Project of the Year’ award for a
study carried out jointly with Nexus. The study assessed the social value of the
Tyne & Wear metro system in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, demonstrating the impact of
this transport network on local communities and the environment.

he award was presented by the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation
(CIHT) North-East & Cumbria at their annual evening event on 27 October.This
body represents transport and infrastructure companies across the 12 UK regions.

### Nominations and special mentions put SYSTRA in the spotlight

I**n Italy**, the Bologna tramway received a Special Mention in the Vision of
the Year category at the Global Light Rail Awards held in the UK on 4 October.
The prize was awarded for the heritage and historical aspects of the project, in
particular the facade-to-facade renovation and the creation of calming public
spaces to encourage active modes of transport.

**In Norway**, an openBIM application for Model-based design of a railway from
Nykirke to Barkåker enabled SYSTRA SWS team to be finalists in the ‘Design for
Infrastructure’ category at the BuildingSMART openBIM Awards, held in Lillestrøm
on 20 September.

**In Australia and New Zealand**, workplaces that promote diversity, equality
and inclusion were highlighted. On 13 September in Melbourne, SYSTRA ANZ teams
were finalists in the Australasian Rail Industry Awards in the ‘Excellence in
Diversity and Inclusion’ category.

### Employees honoured…

On 12 September in Singapore, at the FIDIC (International Federation of
Consulting Engineers) Global Infrastructure Conference, **Jyothsna Amrith** of
SYSTRA Denmark won the FIDIC Future Leadership Award for her extraordinary
efforts as a project manager in the field of rail and civil engineering and her
potential as one of the future leaders in the industry.

**Andrea Edney** of SYSTRA Bamser was named Trenchless Woman of the Year by the
Australasian Society for Trenchless Technology (ASTT). The award is in
recognition of its mastery of underground construction using trenchless
technologies, such as excavation by tunnel boring machine (TBM), microtunnelling
and horizontal perforation. The ceremony took place during the No-Dig Down Under
event in Brisbane, Australia, on 13 September.

Our Consultant Ecologist colleague **Victoria Iggo** from SYSTRA UK & Ireland
was announced as a finalist for the BIG Biodiversity Challenge 2023, a Webinar
event which took place on 28 February. Victoria was shortlisted within the
‘Biodiversity Champion Award’ (Early Career) category which recognises an
individual who has made a particularly significant contribution to biodiversity.
