# SYSTRA strengthens rail connections in Türkiye

Located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the Çukurova region will soon be
equipped with 4 new rail links to better connect its various industrial centres:

- The İltisak link with 2 stations (Yukarıburnaz and Tayseb),
- The connection between the industrial estate and the Port of Erzin, with 2
  stations at each end,
- The connection between the industrial estate and Yukarıburnaz,
- And the connection between Yukarıburnaz and the Port of Erzin.

SYSTRA Türkiye will carry out all the studies for the routes and infrastructure
required for the construction of these connections. The result will be a tenfold
increase in the potential for trade between each zone, fewer lorries on the
roads, and a better connection between the Mediterranean coast and the
industrial hinterland.

We will be working for the Özgün – Özdemir construction joint venture, which has
been chosen to undertake this project by the World Bank, which is financing the
project, and the Directorate General for Infrastructure Investment to improve
rail logistics. This assignment will provide SYSTRA with major exposure for its
infrastructure expertise, which in turn will help us to promote our range of
services, our image and to continue to grow in the country.

## Promising prospects in Türkiye

In 2020, the Turkish authorities presented a vast plan to modernise the rail
network, including the electrification of 1,492km of lines, the renewal of
signalling on 804km of track, and the construction of new links as well as the
doubling of certain sections. As an integral part of this plan, the development
of logistics activities should give rise to the creation of multimodal road-rail
hubs.
