# SYSTRA selected by Anglian Water for its framework agreement in the UK

Anglian Water is the largest water supply and wastewater operator in England and
Wales in terms of geographical area served, with around 7 million customers. Its
service area covers a large part of the East of England which is particularly
exposed to water availability issues due to a combination of rapid population
growth, a high level of farming, and relatively low rainfall compared to the
rest of the country.

> Securing a place on the Anglian Water framework is an indicator of our growing
> reputation in the water market. SYSTRA brings expertise and experience from a
> range of projects in the transport and infrastructure sectors to our water
> clients, always with safety, sustainability and innovation at the core.
> Nick Salt, CEO, SYSTRA UK & Ireland

Anglian Water has developed a 2025–2030 investment programme, worth nearly £11
billion, the largest ever undertaken by the operator. In particular, it aims to
strengthen infrastructure resilience, secure water resources, support the
region’s growth and better protect the environment, with, for example, the
replacement of more than 1,100km of water mains by 2030 and the creation of two
large-scale reservoirs.

## Hydrological studies supporting resilient infrastructure

Under the framework agreement, SYSTRA will notably carry out baseline
hydrological studies, flood risk assessments and modelling, as well as
hydrological impact analyses in support of environmental impact assessments. The
services will also include post-construction hydrological monitoring of
stormwater facilities and sustainable drainage systems, coastal water
improvements, data analysis, GIS mapping, and the production of reports meeting
both regulatory requirements and project-specific needs.

The teams may also provide support for consultation and permitting procedures,
as well as for the various stages of planning, design and delivery of the
above-mentioned stormwater facilities and sustainable drainage systems,
infrastructure projects and preparatory works in the East of England.

At the same time, the framework agreement covers several environmental
monitoring programmes, including those linked to Anglian Water’s drought plan,
as well as studies and monitoring campaigns intended to improve knowledge of
water resources and promote the sustainable management of abstractions. It also
provides for the development of baseline and monitoring data to inform
investment projects, their design and the associated permitting procedures.

## Water, a strategic growth area for SYSTRA

In response to the effects of climate change and the growing need for resilient
infrastructure, the water sector is a strategic growth area and a major adjacent
market for SYSTRA. It is a natural extension of our expertise in complex
infrastructure engineering, environmental services and sustainable regional
development.
