# In France, SYSTRA takes part in ‘Octobre Rose’ (Breast Cancer Awareness Month)

With nearly 30 million steps counted, the maximum donation level planned by
SYSTRA will be donated to the Ruban Rose association, which works to raise
awareness of breast cancer. This will support its prevention initiatives and
research into this disease, which affects every year around 8 million women
around the globe, as well as men.

> This solidarity challenge, which we were organising for the first time, gave
> rise to a real collective effort on the part of our employees, who
> participated for 12 days. In addition to the donation we will be giving to
> Ruban Rose, this operation will have raised awareness of the need to detect
> the symptoms of breast cancer as early as possible, as well as the benefits of
> walking.
> Nelly Demmerlé, HR Director, SYSTRA SA

### Twelve days of awareness

In addition to this collective challenge, teams were invited to inform
themselves via adedicated intranet site and brochure. Employees based in Paris
were also able to obtain information from the Jeune&Rose association: a fun and
educational stand was set up to detect the symptoms of breast cancer using
silicone busts. Early treatment offers a 99% chance of cure 5 years after
diagnosis. Raising awareness is therefore essential to reducing the incidence of
the disease.

Last but not least, the support of our teams was evident in a photo campaign
that went very well.

### Our teams were also mobilised around the world

Because the fight against breast cancer goes beyond national borders, teams have
rallied around campaigns such as ‘Wear it Pint Wednesday’ in the UK, where our
colleagues on the Transpennine rail modernisation project raised funds for the
Breast Cancer Now charity, and in Saudi Arabia, where employees have shown their
support for the #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth campaign.
