# Improving Britain’s railways with SYSTRA

![Improving Britain’s railways with SYSTRA](https://www.systra.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/gettyimages-1240104089.jpg)

SYSTRA will be working in a 50/50 joint venture with Arup for a period of 5
years, with the possibility of a further 3 years. Together, with Skanska as a
local strategic partner, we will take part in a framework agreement for the
modernisation of networks in the North and East of England.

The DDPF covers the supervision of multi-disciplinary design studies and support
for several key rail programmes such as
[**Northern Powerhouse Rail **](https://www.transportforthenorth.com/northern-powerhouse-rail/)
(NPR). All these initiatives are designed to strengthen the rail network in the
north of the country and further interconnect its economic centres and
residents.

> This framework agreement strategically positions SYSTRA, Arup and Skanska at
> the forefront of rail transformations in the North and East of England. We are
> delighted to be able to bring our expertise and that of our partners to bear
> on this major infrastructure modernisation programme.

## Combining experience and knowledge

Arup and SYSTRA collectively bring a wealth of experience and geographical
knowledge across the framework area, from their complementary involvement in the
West and East Alliances of the TransPennine Route Upgrade (TRU) and the East
Coast Main Line Power Supply Upgrade, in addition to the insights and
relationships built during previous work for Network Rail and sub-national
transport body Transport for the North. Skanska further enhances the JV through
their experience of delivering large scale rail projects.
