# Bologna welcomes its first tram

Produced by Spanish manufacturer CAF, the vehicle reached the Borgo Panigale
depot on 8 September and will now undergo the testing and commissioning
activities required before entering passenger service.

SYSTRA Italy, together with partner Architecna Engineering s.r.l., has played a
prominent role in this project since 2020. Our contribution has focused on the
project’s design, engineering, and technical development, including the tram
infrastructure itself, its integration into Bologna’s existing urban fabric,
route planning, system engineering, and the coordination of technical solutions
required for implementation.

After being awarded the
[Preliminary Design of the Red Line](https://systragroup.sharepoint.com/sites/mysystra-group-news/SitePages/en/bologna-tram-2.aspx)
, SYSTRA Italy won an optional assignment for the Final Design of the same line
and
[Design studies for the Green Line](https://systragroup.sharepoint.com/sites/mysystra-group-news/SitePages/en/bologna-tram-green-line-2023.aspx)
. Both projects included construction and quality supervision and were completed
one month ahead of schedule. A further contract was awarded for
[services for the Blue Line](https://systragroup.sharepoint.com/sites/mysystra-group-news/SitePages/en/tramway-bologne.aspx)
