## Sustainable infrastructure for sustainable mobility

**The design of buildings and plant rooms is at the heart of every new or modernised transport infrastructure project. SYSTRA therefore has several teams dedicated to building projects, bringing together expertise in structural design, architecture, systems engineering and electromechanical engineering, to take charge of the completion of any building or technical area.**

Whether it’s a school or a railway station, a computer station or a technical
room, a car park or a shopping centre, SYSTRA can design and build buildings for
its clients and project owners. We manage these projects from the initial
evaluation and land acquisition phases right through to the commissioning of the
buildings.

### Buildings adapted to all uses

In France, India and the United States, SYSTRA has set up dedicated building
teams to carry out these projects. These teams are made up of designers and BIM
(Building Information Modelling) coordinators who design the models and digital
twins for these projects, as well as specialists in all the disciplines required
for building design:

- architects,
- acousticians,
- ecologists and landscape architects,
- specialists in electromechanical engineering and MEP (mechanical, engineering,
  and plumbing),
- lighting engineers,
- access control engineers,
- experts in smoke extraction, heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

We take charge of our assignments right from the sketches and feasibility
studies. We are fully conversant with the various codes and manuals in force:

- Standards for establishments open to the public (ERP), IT 98300 and Tunnel
  2005 in France;
- London Underground Limited Standards in the UK for underground spaces;
- NFPA 130 (National Fire Protection Agency) and Transit Capacity and Quality of
Service Manual, in the United States

Working in integrated teams with our clients, we produce digital mock-ups that
take into account all requirements: commercial and security sound systems,
intrusion detection and access control, telephony and connectivity, ticketing
systems, secure IT networks and video surveillance, electrical and low-voltage
equipment.

### Sustainable buildings to minimise environmental impact

The choice of materials and the architecture of buildings also enables us to
influence the quality of the built environment, by planting facades, choosing
bio-sourced or recycled materials to reduce energy and heating consumption, and
designing roofs to encourage the recovery of rainwater or the capture of solar
energy.

We also apply our expertise in smoke extraction for transport tunnels and
underground stations to all the technical buildings we design.

This expertise has been applied in Europe and India, with two emblematic
projects in Dholera and Pune. In Dholera, our teams were selected by the
manufacturer Larsen & Toubro to design India’s first Smart City, a special
economic zone at the cutting edge of technology.

## Did you know?

One of the first buildings in India to be recognised for its sustainable and
environmental qualities was created by SYSTRA: the Metro Bhavan Building, the
administrative headquarters of the Nagpur metro operator, for which our teams
designed a roof structure in the shape of butterfly wings.

This structure has made it possible to install large solar panels on the roof,
capturing 273 MW of electricity and making the building a positive energy
building. The insulation also enables electricity savings of up to 20% compared
with a similar building, while the structure recovers water and reprocesses it
before using it to water the landscaped areas, reducing water consumption by
40%. Lastly, the building makes the most of its airy spaces with natural
lighting.

This building received the Platinum Award from the Indian Green Building Council
(IGBC) in 2020.
