This investment, which has a lifespan of 30 to 40 years and is a differentiating factor for users, is vital to the commercial success of the project. This ranges from the conversion of existing buses and trains to low or zero carbon running. We analyse your constraints to identify the most appropriate solution, which may involve adding batteries to an existing tramway or converting a diesel locomotive to run on hydrogen with a fuel cell. ## SECONDARY BENEFITS Beyond the financial aspects, the choice of new or renovated rolling stock can have a considerable impact on local pollution and the carbon footprint. It can also encourage passengers to change their habits. These aspects need to be taken into account as part of a lifecycle assessment. For operation on non-electrified lines, new fuels and energy sources are appearing to replace diesel power: battery-powered trains, natural gas and fuel cells (hydrogen). They require the adaptation of existing installations or the design and construction of new dedicated facilities.
